Hi Mark,
Thanks for visiting my website.
I think that most Filipino's are not social drinkers. They mostly drink to get drunk and forget their problems. Maybe that's the reason they like the red horse so much, and the gin and brandy too.

Most foreigners and locals above 30 years old enjoys San Miguel. But locals who are below 30 enjoys Red Horse. This is just a generalization though.

Merv,
Thanks for stopping by at my site.
Yes, San Miguel Pale Pilsen is one of the best lagers in the world. And I can testify that I have been drinking a lot different ones. I am from Holland where are several good breweries, and I have tasted all Dutch beers. I also tasted a lot of German and Belgian ones. The US ones I do not like.
There is also a San Miguel beer in Spain. But this one doesn't taste as good as the one in the Philippines. (maybe the water what is used?)

San Miguel is the best. I started drinking it back in the days when there was almost nothing else. We drank a lot. At the sari sari San Miguel was P2. Bottle deposit was P2.5. Really. 8-)

Red Horse? Well here is my opinion of how they make it. The horse drinks two gallons of San Miguel then they put a bucket under the horse. That's the Red Horse. 8-)

Yeah, I like the San Mig light. Get it in thailand too. But, was sick of beer in Boracay and started on the beautiful brown rum, Tanduay, is it? That was a welcome change to feeling bloated. Trouble is, my feet seemed to want to go in different directions. ;-)
