safety guard in the Philippines
what’s in a name !
All over the Philippines you will find safety guards. All banks have them, usually well armed with guns and/or riffles. All major shopping malls have them. But also smaller shops and restaurants, even Mc Donalds and Jollibee.
All those security guards are employed in a lot of agency’s and hired by the shops and restaurants who are protecting their own interests but also their visiting clients. When a visitor enters a shopping mall or bank they are usually checked for fire arms or other ‘dangerous’ tools.
It might sound strange to people who have never visited the Philippines, but it seems to be necessary to have those guards. I know that they do not let beggars in a mall and so on. Aside from that it is giving the visitor a better and safer feeling inside.
The better living areas, like a lot of subdivisions, have also safety guards. Visitors have to identify them selves and most of the times leave an ID at the guards when entering such subdivision. People who live there have certain stickers on their cars, so they are able to enter the subdivision fast without problems.
Their second task is to assist people in directing them the way they like to go and also in parking in front of banks and shops. They also clear the way when you are leaving such parking.

I’m visiting Marikina market frequently because of the quantity and quality of the goods offered there.
In one of the shops around this market there are also safety guards. The agency who is putting those guards there has a strange name.
They call them selves ‘Great Fighter’. If the employees of this agency are realy great fighters is not known to me. It’s only that the name doesn’t feel right to me when it comes to safety guards.
