Otto Neri, the painterLast week we were in a restaurant overlooking Manila: Cloud9 at Antipolo along Sumolung High Way. In this large place a painter found a place to have his atelier (studio) and his galery. I am a admirer of good art especially painting. That’s the reason I paid a visit to this atelier and had a nice talk to the artist.

His name: Othoniel M. Neri. woman and childIn the picture he is posing for my camera in front of his coffee shop counter. The coffee shop is located in front of the galery. Note, when you visit him, that he designed the tables himself. It’s worth studying them. Check some of the tables HERE. They are all different. And on those tables he serves a good cup of coffee or an other drink.

When I approached his atelier one specific painting catched my eye: A woman holding a baby in her arms. Oil sketch on canvas, 24 x 36 inches. Once inside his gallery we have seen many nice art from this artist and also from other painters / artists.

I was allowed to enter his atelier and take a few pictures there. Otto has made ‘portraits’ to one of his specialities. On his easel was a portrait almost finished. On an other easel a nude was being painted and also almost finished. The other picture I publish here is from a painting what was exposed in an exhibition in Manila not long ago.

If you just like your portrait sketched, that’s also possible. He is doing it while you have some coffee. Portaits in oil on canvas are possible, just ask him or send him an email.

Another place to visit when next in Manila. Make a welcome change from the streets around Makati.
I assume your lady is from Pi and thats why you settled there?
I have made a few chat pals and visited some parts, some great and some not so great. I always love the way the parents look after the little girls. They are always , well, when they can afford it, beautifully dressed. I take a lot of pics of the faces of the little girls. Such expressive eyes, full of hope. Sad sometimes when you think of the future hardships most will encounter.

Yes, the girls are all dreaming of becoming a beauty queen, or at least their mothers do…. ;-)
