one week after Ondoy, the aftermath
One week after Ondoy has brought a lot of dead and destroying a big part of the Philippines, the situation has changed, but not much yet.
Affected people are burying their beloved ones, or searching for their missed children, parents, spouses or other relatives.
At the same time they are cleaning their houses and properties, drying their beds, washing their clothes. And they do that with the well known smile on their faces.
Almost 300 people were killed (official counting) and still about 40 are missing. I am not sure if these official countings are right. Knowing the Filipinos, I think that there are more dead and missing, but lots of people are not officially registered, so the number could be much higher.
The damage would be close to 5 billion. This is only the direct damage. There are no numbers yet about indirect damage like lost of productivity and so on.
Some areas in Metro Manila are still flooded from last week. Check HERE. This is because the water cannot go to the Laguna lake. This lake is full of water, even at a critical level. And there’s no way to have it flowing to the sea. Nature has to do it’s work here. It could still take several weeks that these people have to suffer from the flooding waters in their houses.
On GMA News I found a good column which says a lot about the Philippines and the government of this country. Read it HERE.
The second typhoon Pepeng brought some rain in the Metro, not that much, but enough to have flooded a few parts again. Not that high like last week, but still…..
Pepeng hit the north part of Luzon much more. Several death were counted and it caused a lot of damaged houses and buildings Pepeng has gone too by now.
A new typhoon is building up in the pacific right now:
