birthday celebration in Pioduran #2

During the afternoon and evening we had contact with some nieces who are living in Holland through Yahoo Messenger. In this way they had the feeling that they were included in the party too.

After dinner for all the guests it is time to start celebrate the birthday with drinking and dancing. Men are grouped together and liquor is put on their tables. Read more about the drinking ritual HERE.
Men only start dancing after they have been drinking some alcohol and after they do not feel so shy anymore.
I noticed also that they start speaking better English too when they are drunk. ;-)

Children are usual the first to start dancing. They are not that shy and the moment the hear music they start moving their hips and other body parts. Women are sitting on the site and watch them dancing.

Women do not mingle much with the men when men are drinking. They just controll them from a distance and take proper action if the husband or son is behaving badly or get drunk.

A little later in the evening also some adults started dancing. So also Pay. He is dancing disco with an older lady from the village. He likes dancing a lot and is still moving a lot at his age.

At around midnight we made the disco stop and have the party ended.

    Hi Jan,

Yup, I’m from Pioduran too. But presently working as an expat here in Saudi Arabia. But I always visit Pioduran during my vacation. I’m from Barrio called Buenavista. But I grew up Manila. That’s why I don’t know much people in Pioduran. My Family name is PRINCIPE. I don’t know if your wife knows someone from our Barrio.

Nice blog…. keep it up. Cool….

    Mabalos,

    Mikey

      Mikey,
My wife doesn’t know anybody with your family name, but has heard about it. She also grew up in Manila and has lived in the Netherlands for more than 20 years.
We try to visit Pioduran as much as possible. At least once a year.
