Hi,
I cannot blame you for moving to a 'dryer' place.
And knowing that there are still lots of places around the Metro flooded for months.
Looking at TV these days with more rain coming I hope that it will not have the same results as Ondoy or Pepeng.
I realy hope you will find a better place to live. Good luck!

I agree with you, Matt. I am also wondering where all the financial donations are going.
I hope it will not be used to buy new mercedesses for some officials.

I was enjoying my breakfast that Saturday morning of the flood looking out my window in Marikina when I saw the flash flood come down my street. There have always been floods in Marikina but enough is enough I will be leaving asap, since the next government won't do anything either to change the situation. That is as soon as I can get my pickup repaired am 2 months away on the waiting list.

Im sorry to say im very anti donation simply because its not monitored. There were cases of people doing the collections of goods stealing them for themselves. What it needs is completely overhauling, I also know that every country on this planet is aware of the fact money and goods disappear into the wrong hands and it makes me really wonder why? But then again BAE was caught up in a corruption scandal (One of the biggest Arms companies out of the UK) including selling goods to countries that could neither afford it but also offering bribes in return. The same countries receive aid.. is it a fact that the average person is taken for a fool by most countries governments?? We donate so they get wealthy? Look at the aid relief organisations who quickly got advertisement compaigns in full swing.. I havent seen much of a return on peoples investment in them to save peoples lives?? If you want to make a difference only way I can see it being done properly is smaller groups doing things directly I have been involved with charities before and its just a gravy train once you reach a certain level.

Hello Peter,
Like you I am also curious where the money will go. All together it must be several hundreds of millions in pesos.
I'm afraid we will never know where the money went.
I only hope that it's not going to be spent for new mercedeses or other sports cars for a few officials.

It would be interesting to know where the money they collected will go. I hope it will help some of those who really need it.

Hi Jan,
Sorry to see all the problems Manila is going through. We were in Tacloban when Peping passed and in Biliran when the second one grazed us. Needless to say my stay won't include a trip to Manila.
Previous flooding from typhoons should have been a wakeup call but it was ignored. A lot of Manila is boult on a flood plain. Notice the first word in that description. In addition to allowing people to build in low lying areas where no construction should have been permitted they further allowed illegal settlers to encroach on the drainage channels which further restricted the flow. In addition to the mountains of garbage that were dumped into the channels.
I hope the government will prevent the people from rebuilding on these low lying areas and ensure the drainage channels are dredged regularly. Just be thankful the second storm was not a direct hit or it would have been much worse.
It would be interesting to know where the money they collected will go. I hope it will help some of those who really need it.
